I was riding though the New Mexico desert in the summer of 1965 in a car driven by my West Point classmate. I was staying with his family in Tucumcari on our way to summer training at Fort Carson, Colorado as “third lieutenants”. It was a gorgeous July day and we were on our way to pick up dates in Texas. “Like a Rolling Stone “ came on the radio and I was transfixed.
I turned to Bill and said “Who IS that?” He looked at me like I was from Mars and said “That’s Bob Dylan!” I said “Who’s Bob Dylan?” Hard to believe.
It took a number of years including one in Vietnam but I eventually realized that my thoughts and perceptions and indeed my very life had started a ninety degree turn during those six minutes in the desert.
Wow.
I just had another ‘moment’ reading that.
Thanks for this, Dan. The recording made my day. 🎙️⬇️
Loved this. That recording with Anthony Hopkins has always been one of my favorites.
