It's funny, Rick says the book has less 'actionable' stuff in there, and that's true. But I find his words ignite action in me constantly. I can't read too many of his words before feeling the urge to create something. They're like sparks.
Rick’s ‘Unexpected Conversations’, where he interviews the dead, are some of the most fascinating parts of his work. I recently wrote about them and how they push creative boundaries. If anyone’s interested, here’s my take: https://substack.com/home/post/p-160000726?source=queue . Would love to hear what others think!
It's fascinating and refreshing to hear Rick Rubin talk about the struggle to create. To admit he didn't know how to write his book, "The Creative Act". And to persevere with multiple failed experiments to finally produce something so valuable. Thanks for sharing the interview, Dan Stone.
Kinda at last we have a new guru for the creative outsiders. So longed for in a world so crammed with people wanting to be insiders a voice. His interviews with paul McCarthy are among the great views. His book a bible insomuch that it speaks the truth when we all thought it was dead. Ok might be dead but there a new voice
What a pickup to see this in early morning Sydney light just off the plane from London.

Hey thanks for sharing. Did you get the playlist of elevator music perchance?
Not yet! But how amazing that Rick's sole music recommendation was a 24-hour-long collection of elevator music.
I totally understand it. I would definitely be curious to hear. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate you
